My Nomad...

I was blessed with my son, Kaleb coming to our Kentuckiana home for 6 days. We were his "out of the way" visit on his pilgrimage to Gulfport, Mississippi. Of course, I had to take pictures of him before he left on his trip. He had changed so much since I last saw him in June '09. He has lost weight and was sporting a goatee' and I did my best to cook some of his favorite meals while he was home as well.
We had a great visit. Although it just was not long enough to get reacquainted. I think his visit with us was all about questions, advice, and seeking that "support" from the home front as he embarks on a new quest. I joked with him about being a nomad. He had liquidated many of his personal items to seek his dreams down South where fishing and the ocean have always called him deep within. The job market/lack thereof in the NE GA Mountains was the final decision to go ahead and seek out his dreams. He is camera shy but I told him I needed updated photos in case I did not hear from him and I had evidence he did exist. He simply laughs and said, "Mom, you are just going to scrap them!" So true. But that is what we "mommy scrappers" do, right?
I suppose being 20 years old, male, and having a dream allows one to travel and reach for a dream he has had since he was 10 years old. We of course, support his "nomadic" lifestyle. He has saved his money and wants to give the "itch" deep inside a "scratch." Kaleb has always been a "lone-wolf" but he now is in love. Yes, the girl went with him. She picked him up and they headed toward the gray Gulf (he sent iPhone pics) and he wants to be there out on the Gulf when it turns an emerald green.
I am happy in knowing we have family in Mobile and PerdidoKey (Pensacola)
to keep an eye on him and make sure he is safe and sound.
I wish for him great success and happiness. It's just hard to let him go but I know I must let him follow his dream wherever it may be. So, if one is to be a nomad...now, is the time.

The Cold is BAAAAACK!

The wind is simply incredible! I do not mind the cold, really. But with wind it makes it unbearable. I am heading into Nashville this morning and I am hoping that it will warm up here before I get back this afternoon. But there is one way to keep Summer alive in my mind and that is to scrap memories from the past Summer. So, this is what I have been doing lately. I used Studio Calico's Kit,"Baker's Dozen." I am really enjoying this kit a great deal.

Try to stay warm today. The wind can be brutal in this cold!

Olympic Mittens!

Can you believe it? I have two, count them, TWO pairs of Olympic 2010 Winter Mittens from Vancouver, Canada! This is all due to one of my online scrapbooking friends, Joanne! Whomever said that making friends online is foolish, weird, crazy, or they are not "real friends" has not ventured where I have been. Joanne selflessly sent me two pairs of the wonderful mittens that are all of the rage right now during the Olympics. There was only 3 Million pairs produced and a percentage of the proceeds benefit Canada's Olympic Teams.
It's a WIN WIN. I am so excited about these mittens.
They are not just yarn as they have a soft lining to keep ones hands warm.

I have been blessed to receive such a wonderful gift from my friend Joanne. We share the love of scrapbooking and we enjoy chatting over at Art Freckles. I just wanted to thank you publicly and let her know how much I appreciate these little "warmies!"

Yes, they will now be with my other Olympic Memorabilia that I have collected over the years. I love it and it is just another reflection of how wonderful and supremely nice of a people Canadians truly are. Their hearts are as vast, open, and beautiful as the land they encompass. Again, THANK YOU JOANNE!
Yes, I am so happy to have a "little piece" of History!

Altering Drawers...

I love these Kaiser Craft drawers.
They are made with MDF and they were a snap to put together.
I wanted to keep the colors coordinating and in the neutral tones that would match my shelves in my art room. They are perfect!
I used initials in place of an entire word for the contents of each drawer.

This was fun to alter and I indeed want at least two more sets!

Making the MOST with my scraps!

Oh this morning is quite lovely here. The temperature is warmer and the sun is shining. I know Spring is on the way because we had 2 little rabbits in our back yard this morning.

Yesterday morning, I started scrapping. Well, altering to be exact(will post that project tomorrow.) But last night, I was talking with my friend who is recovering from surgery and she asked if I would make her a few cards that she could give as "thank you" notes to those who have taken the time to remember her, send flowers, and bring food to her home while she is in therapy to gain her strength. So, I took the scraps that were on my scrappy table and these are what I have come up with for her to send to special people.I simply love all of these papers. Creating these cards was quite fun and I enjoyed using my "table scraps" that would otherwise just sit for awhile longer.

Fat Tuesday!

Today is the day to indulge in whatever is planned to be given up for the Season of Lent. Well, this is the first year in decades that I can not think of anything to give up. At first I thought about meat. But I just know that would not work as my husband loves meat. So, then I thought about coffee and I am not sure I could do that either. So, what do I sacrifice? I have decided to give up my daily Diet Coke. Today is the last day to have my DC and then I can have it come Easter. It is a small sacrifice I know...but it is given with a great heart!

Have a fabulous Mardi Gras!

Over the Snow!

It is still cold here and the snow not melted and we are going to be getting 2 more inches this weekend. Yes, I want SUMMER. Just skip Spring and bring me warmth! With this said, I did not realize it has been so long since I posted. So, here is a layout I completed last month and I have not shared, yet. It is based on a sketch by Aphra (DT Member at 3 Scrappy Boys). It was specifically made for the newsletter and I enjoyed the challenge of the sketch.
I am so SKETCH CHALLENGED anyway.
I simply just do not create with them unless I have to.
It turned out well and I enjoyed the mix of papers and embellishments. The Winter Olympics begin tonight and we plan on watching the opening ceremony.
WOW, it is warmer in Vancouver, Canada than here!

It is JUST COLD OUTSIDE....no doubt about it.

I am seriously over cold weather.
But to warm myself this morning
I created the layout below from a challenge issued over at 3 Scrappy Boys.

The challenge had the following minimum requirements.

3 Patterned Papers
Chipboard
Bling
Journaling
Ribbon
Button
2 Fonts

So, this is what I created using the above formula.I am getting ready to prepare a few recipes for tonight's SUPERBOWL!
All I have to say about this...
GEAUX SAINTS!

Scraps on my table often find themselves on cards.

A Stitch In Time...

February's Kit at Art Freckles has some really fun things to scrap with this month. I took the name of the kit, *A Stitch In Time* and looked through some old photos of myself and created layouts about myself that I would have never used in the past.
I guess it is that old "I am insecure about me," kinda feeling.
But I threw that out the window with this kit and I like what I created.
I also created two cards for a friend who is currently recovering
from an extensive surgery and I wanted to brighten her day.
I also used this wonderful kit for Artist Trading Cards for a swap I am participating in as well.
Be sure to go check out Art Freckles' Store and I am sure you will find something to your liking. The kit is well priced and you will enjoy the creative fun!

Bloomingdale's Big Window Challenge!

I have not forgotten about posting whom I voted for, daily for the BIG CHALLENGE at Bloomingdale's. But before we get started, I promised a random drawing RAK that included those of you who guessed correctly on the room design I voted for and guess what, HE WON!

Congratulations Rebecca: YOU WON!
Rebecca said...

you may not want to hear this - but i vote for the bloomingdales window with the Elle Decor window coming in at a close second :)

I'm thinking you are an fan of the Elle window.

**email me your address and I will get your prize to you ASAP!**

This room has great inspiration.
To view the entire room go to Bloomingdale's Big Window Challenge!

I chose the ELLE Decor Window by Eddie Ross. The reason I chose his room is because I felt it was the most "free spirited and brightest room." I love the colors and the fact he mixed antiques with new. He really has a flair with color and his overall design was clean in the fact it was comfortable and I could see myself using a room of this "livable design." (is that a word, livable?)
I also found it was more versatile if one ever wanted to add/change up anything.

I did however, like the other two rooms. But I had issues with light, textures, choices of paintings/drawings and a rug that was in one of the rooms.

Overall, this room inspired me the most.

ATC~Valentine

It's Groundhog Day if that really means anything. I am not sure this age old tradition rings true as the Groundhog up North says 6 more weeks of Winter and down South they are stating an early Spring. In any case, we all know the date of Spring and I await its arrival.

I have been working on ATC's and thought I would share my Valentine ATC's I have created for a swap.
